Avignon… the Luberon

1 h by car

To the west, before crossing the Rhône, just opposite the city of Popes, stop at Villeneuve-lès-Avignon to visit its Chartreuse (chartreuse.org) constructed by Innocent VI in the XIVth century during the popes’ exile in Avignon.

After Avignon’s ramparts, the Palais des Papes (palais-de-papes.com) and the many museums and churches, go to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (with its amazing Karst spring), then L’Isle-sur-Sorgues (a real antique dealer’s village), before joining the Luberon and its picturesque villages (such as Gordes, Roussillon and its ochre-coloured cliffs, and Lourmarin), without forgetting to pay a visit to the splendid Sénanque Abbey (senanque.fr) amid the lavender fields.
